Motivated by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that's mated with a pair of electric motors and a battery pack, the RAV4 Hybrid is rated at a respectable 194 horsepower. A continuously variable transmission sorts gear shifts.

You just plowed through a major mud puddle, and an opaque coat of muck is spattered across your windshield. For some, this could be a problem. But you've got a brand new set of wiper blades, and you're not afraid to use them.

Did you know the average wiper blade only lasts about a year? In order to work its best, the rubber must be firm, yet pliable. Exposure to extreme heat in the summer, rain, dust, and dry air can degrade the quality of rubber, making surface contact uneven.

One important factor in reducing our environmental impact is using products that would otherwise go to waste. Using waste products means we reduce demand for new things, and it keeps waste out of landfills, where it does nothing but take up space and poison the environment.

The Toyota Mirai, which runs on hydrogen, can use fuel from recycled products. One way of using waste to make hydrogen is by fermenting cow poop and refining the gasses released.

Toyota vehicles are supposed to be reliable, but that claim has never been tested quite as much as it was by Top Gear.

In the first segment of "Killing a Toyota," they subjected an old Toyota truck to reckless driving, salt-water baths, wrecking ball assault, and trial by fire.

When that wasn't enough to kill it, they went at it again. Will a 240 foot drop off of a demolished building be enough to finally put the nail in the coffin for this truck?

In 2000, the Toyota Prius took the American market by storm as one of the very first hybrid cars. In 2015, the Toyota Mirai is going to be one of the very first hydrogen fuel cell vehicles.

Except actually, the hydrogen fuel cell was invented in 1838. The hybrid? The turn of the last century.

Hybrids, fuel cells, and other sustainable technology has been around for a very long time. So why does it feel so new? Where have these technologies been all this time?
