Toyota Safety Sense, Keeping Drivers Safe

Toyota Safety Sense, an advanced active safety package for midsize and large vehicles on the road in San Antonio. Crash prevention is the best form of crash protection, which is what Toyota Safety Sense does. Crashes are sometimes caused by a driver's delayed reaction to a situation and inability to react quickly. Toyota Safety Sense is designed to protect drivers, passengers, and anyone else on the road. Toyota is proud to offer Toyota Safety Sense as a milestone in its history of creating some of the safest vehicles on the road today.

The Three Most Common Accidents in New Braunfels

Toyota Safety Sense is designed to address three of the most common accidents: frontal collisions, unintended lane departures, and nighttime accidents. Toyota Safety Sense is designed to prevent these accidents by enhancing driver awareness, vehicle operation, and decision-making. As an integrated system, Toyota Safety Sense addresses the three most common accident types with a Pre-Collision System, Lane Departure Alert, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, and Automatic High Beams.

Pre-Collision System

Using an integrated forward-facing camera and a radar system mounted in the grille, the Pre-Collision System is designed to help lessen the impact of an accident or avoid a collision with another car or a pedestrian.

Detecting Other Vehicles

When the Pre-Collision System detects the possibility of a collision with another vehicle, it alerts the driver to take evasive action with an audio and visual alert. If the driver reacts and applies the brake, the Pre-Collision System may still intervene with Brake Assist to apply extra force to the brakes. If the driver does not react within a set time, the Pre-Collision System may automatically apply the brakes to reduce speed and possibly avoid accidents.

Detecting Pedestrians

During certain day-time conditions, if the Pre-Collision System detects the possibility of a collision with a pedestrian, it will likely alert the driver with audio and visual alerts. If the driver does not respond in time, the system may react, applying the brakes to avoid the collision or, at the least, mitigate the severity of the impact.

Pre-Collision System Effective Speeds

The Pre-Collision System will detect a vehicle at speeds between seven and 110 miles per hour. If the driver does not react, automatic braking will reduce the speed by 25 miles per hour. Pedestrian Detection occurs at seven to 50 miles per hour and reduces speeds by 19 miles per hour if the driver does not react.

Dynamic Radar Cruise Control

Dynamic Radar Cruise Control is designed to work for drivers in Boerne. Using a grille-mounted radar and a forward-facing camera, it can detect a vehicle in front of it and adjust to its speed automatically, maintaining a pre-set distance.Dynamic Radar Cruise Control is designed for use on highways or similar driving conditions where consistent speed is typical. It allows drivers to maintain a set speed without constant throttle input while maintaining distance from vehicles in front.Simply put, if the vehicle is traveling faster than the vehicle in front, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control will slow down to match that vehicle's speed until the slower car gives way or maneuvers around it.

Lane Departure Alert

Using an in-vehicle camera to detect lane departure, Lane Departure Alert helps keep drivers and passengers safe. When traveling on roads with clear lane markings, the system indicates operating status through colored lane marking illustrations on the vehicle's Multi-Information Display. If the Lande Departure Alert detects that the vehicle is leaving the lane unintentionally, the driver receives an audio and visual alert.

Steering Assist

If the Lane Departure Alert determines the driver is unintentionally leaving the lane, and no corrective measures are taken, Steering Assist will make small corrections to keep the vehicle on the land. The minimum operating speed for Lane Departure Alert is 32 miles per hour.

Lane Tracing Assist

Using a combination of Dynamic Radar Cruise Control and Lane Keep Assist, Lane Tracing Assist uses the lines on the road along with vehicles in front to assist drivers and keep the vehicle centered. If the system determines that the driver is not paying attention and does not respond to prompts, the system can bring the vehicle to a stop under some conditions.

Automatic High Beams

Automatic High Beams make drivers, passengers, and others safer. The system is designed to give drivers better visibility at night by using high beams more frequently. Casting more light further, high beams allow drivers to see pedestrians and other obstacles sooner. By coming on automatically under the right conditions, Automatic High Beams increase the driver's chances of detecting issues in time to react.Automatic High Beams also help keep other drivers safe. By dimming when other vehicles are detected, the system helps reduce glare for other drivers.

Road Sign Assist

Using the vehicle's onboard camera system, Road Sign Assist helps detect speed limit signs, stop signs, yield signs, do not enter signs, and other warning signs around Seguin. Icons are displayed on the Multi-Information Display to assist drivers in identifying signage sooner and with better accuracy.

Proactive Driving Assist

Proactive Driving Assist uses the features included with Toyota Safety Sense to gently brake the vehicle when heading into curves or help drivers with tasks like maintaining distance between other vehicles, pedestrians, or cyclists.
