Performance
You can get a trustworthy gasoline-only version of the 2022 RAV4 with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 203 horsepower. The drive system is up to you with a choice of either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. In terms of fuel economy, the front-wheel drive model does extremely well, getting as much as 35 miles from every gallon on the highway. All-wheel drive doesn't diminish the numbers too badly, hitting 32 miles to the gallon on highways. The RAV4 hybrid actually does better in the city getting as much as 41 miles per city gallon.
Toyota has added a plug-in hybrid model called Prime that can give you some extra advantages. Its zero-to-60 time is a brisk 5.5 seconds. While its electric-only range is just 42 miles, when it's teamed up with its 2.5-liter gasoline engine, it can give you an enormous 600 miles of driving range. That overcomes the most annoying problem with electric vehicles: The customarily tiny amount of available driving range between charge-ups.
Interior
Space is generous in the RAV4, especially given that this is a compact SUV. Legroom is 41 inches in front and nearly 38 inches in the back seat. Cargo room with the rear seats down is nearly 70 cubic feet, so there's plenty of room for your stuff. Touchscreen options are either 7- or 9-inch. Attractive available features encompass an 11-speaker audio system by JBL, wireless device charging and a helpful camera system with a 360-degree view.
Safety
The 2022 Toyota RAV4 earned five out of five stars, the highest possible safety ranking from the national organization that evaluates safety on the highway.
